Module 1
What is this module about?
This module deals with the ability to identify competence gaps and training needs of
apprentices. The in-company tutors need to take in consideration the importance of the
students’ actual knowledge and the competences they already possess. WBL training will
improve their skills and add many new competences, so it could be a benefit for the
companies as well. The tutors have the aim to understand where and how to improve these
skills; the first module provides many solutions regarding this.
Furthermore, the module addresses the ability to design the training by combining theoretical
and practical parts. The tutor will develop the training programme, consisting of specific
actions and specific knowledge for a specific company.
The acquisition of a methodology is covered in this section. Four steps are relevant: prepare,
demonstrate, imitate, practice.
Learning objectives
After going through the module, in-company tutors are expected to achieve the following
learning objectives, being able to:
- Identify the gap between the apprentices’ actual knowledge and their expected
knowledge.
- Understand the reason behind the skill gaps of the trainee.
- Create a training programme in line with the requirements of the trainee’s learning
path.
- Design a training path that combines theoretical and practical knowledge.
- Promote a positive, educational environment.
- Organise the knowledge transfer to ensure it is effective and adequate.
- Match the knowledge taught to the skills of the apprentice.
