               Exercises/Activities

ACTIVITY 1: USE AN EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION SOFTWARE

A virtual space where you can communicate with apprentices, especially in COVID-19 era is
extremely useful. Some reward and recognition platforms that can be used include: Kazoo,
Bucketlist, Bonusly, Kudos, Motivosity, Nectar and Fond.

Some example of how you can do it:

 Set your recognition challenge: You can set a unique challenge that can highlight a
particular cultural element you want to improve in the workplace. For example, maybe
you want to work on improving teamwork. If that’s your goal, you might create a
custom recognition occasion with the title “I am a team player.” Whenever an
employee sees a colleague improve this specific skill, they can easily celebrate them

                       the recognition platform.
 Set deadlines: For your challenge to be effective, you need to set deadlines and
outline goals. You can develop a timeline which will indicate what should be achieved
by the apprentices and when. Once you’ve clarified that, challenge employees to
deliver a certain number of recognitions, or max out their giving budget before time
runs out. Keep in mind that the goals you outline should be focused on giving, not
                       getting, recognition, as this

is more effective for instilling a culture of gratitude at your organization.
 Select your prizes: The program will be most effective if there are also prizes that team
can earn if it achieves the goal that has been set. Out-of-the-office excursions or lunch
parties at the office are some examples.

ACTIVITY 2: SET GOALS BY USING A SMART FORMAT

You should assign your apprentices with tasks, based on a smart format. Make a list of the
task you want to assign to the apprentices and use the following technique.

Specific (What do I want to accomplish?, Why is this goal important?, Who is involved?,

Where is it located?, Which resources or limits are involved?)

Measurable  (How much?, How many?, How will I know when it is accomplished?)

Achievable  (How can I accomplish this goal?, How realistic is the goal, based on other
               constraints, such as financial factors?)

Relevant  (Does this seem worthwhile?, Is this the right time?, Does this match our other
efforts/needs?, Am I the right person to reach this goal?, Is it applicable in the current socio-
               economic environment?)

                                                                                                       22
